Known as "Madinina" by the native Caribs, or “Island of Flowers,” Martinique is a land of lush rainforests, banana and pineapple plantations, and stunning waterfalls. Explore Fort-de-France or visit Saint-Pierre, the former capital, destroyed in 1902 by the Montagne Pelée volcano. Local markets offer fresh fruit, spices, and, of course, the famous rum.
